VO Wilderness Survival

This trip is designed to introduce and practice outdoor living and survival skills in a variety of settings and under a range of conditions. We’ll cover techniques that are targeted to whatever the season the course is held in. We’ll include traditional and modern skills, and use a variety of equipment (from the most modern to ‘no’ equipment), to enhance your enjoyment and your range of comfort of the outdoors. In the winter, we’ll learn and practice concepts of winter camping and safety.

We’ll also stage “accidents” during the course of our hiking, biking, canoeing, and kayaking, and through team cooperation, we’ll work our way out of the situation….and promise to never lose anyone! We’ll learn basic to intermediate orientation skills, shelter solutions, signaling concepts on land and in the water, emergency sources of food, and many other skills. The trip will take place at various locations on the coast of Maine, and interior forested wilderness.
This trip is a particularly good one for corporate outings, and youth groups for its team building and leadership potential. Successfully “surviving” takes a combination of teamwork, attention to details, and spirit and positive attitude. There are many lessons to carry forward from this course!

Activities: Will depend on season, but will include multiple combinations of VO activities, such as hiking, sea kayaking, canoeing, and mountain biking.
Meals and Lodging: Well,……..its survival, what do you expect? We won’t be staying at cushy lodges for this one. Seriously, the course will be about one half camping and one half staying at a reasonably comfortable lodge or B&B. But you have to be willing to rough it for some part of this.
Duration: 6 days, 5 nights, Monday through Saturday
Cost: $1,850 per person.
Schedule:
October 2 through October 7, 2006 – FILLED
May14 to 19, 2007
Additional 2007 trips to be added.
Additional trips can be arranged upon request for groups of 4 or more.
