A LETTER FROM THE DIRECTOR
In the winter of 2004 a new concept in learning emerged. By linking education and outdoor adventure students are now able to gain academic credit, while at the same time exploring some of the most pristine and untouched habitats the globe has to offer.

The program is accredited through Study Abroad at the University of Arizona and students can attain up to 15 semester units during extended programs through the fall, winter, spring and summer terms. Credit disciplines include Geography, Natural Resources, Spanish and Outdoor Adventure. Additionally, students may be required to fulfill a two-week internship period. This unique opportunity allows students to gain real world experience while at the same time giving back to the local community.

Through the use of low impact activities such as Sea Kayaking, River Running, Trekking and Caving we are able to access those areas generally untouched by the hands of man and explore nature on its own terms. Accompanied by accredited University instructors and local experienced guides, expedition members gain a sense of place during the program and incorporate the local culture, lifestyle and experience into the learning process.

By combining the positive aspects of experiential learning, outdoor adventure and exposure to many different cultural regions and biological habitats VENTURE OUTSIDE programs have a profound and lasting impression on all involved. Therefore, to all of you kindred souls anxious to explore the world around you, we encourage you to pack your bags and join us!

Sincerely,
David E. Fornander,
Director, VO Study Abroad Program
