Chiriqui Highlands & Bocas Adventure

Join Venture Outside as we raft, paddle, hike, mountain bike, and snorkel from the cloud forest of the Chiriqui highlands, to the beaches and turquoise water of the Caribbean Sea. The highlands of Chiriqui Province include vast tracts of preserved land, including the Amistad National Biosphere Preserve (shared with Costa Rica), and the Volcan Baru National Park. The miles of uninterrupted forests are home to an astonishing variety of wildlife species, including the resplendent quetzal and hundreds of other species of birds, rainforest frogs, and jaguars. The Bocas del Toro region of Panama is known for its luxurious rain forests with an abundance of fauna and flora, sunny islands, beaches that compete with the best in the Caribbean, coral reefs in crystal clear water, mangrove islets in a lake-like scenery, Guaymi indian villages and Panama’s first national marine park that protects the ecosystems and natural resources of the region

This adventure will begin in the highlands with an exciting whitewater rafting trip down the world class Chiriqui Viejo River, camping on the river bank for a night along the way. The adventure quotient stays high, for high elevation mountain biking, including trails on the slopes of the 11,000 foot volcano Baru. We'll end up in the idyllic mountain town of Boquete, where we’ll relax for the evening. The next day we’ll start the trek to the Caribbean, stopping along the way for invigorating dips in the hot Caldera Springs and then the cool Chiriqui River. We’ll then head to the elfin forests around Fortuna Lake, for the unique experience of paddling a sea kayak in a cloud forest lake, and some short trail hikes in the nature preserves around the lake. After a night of camping, we’ll continue on to Bocas del Toro and finish the trip with a relaxing day of sea kayaking, snorkeling, and relaxing on Caribbean beaches. We’ll spend our last night taking in the atmosphere of the very laid-back Bocas Town to get a dose of “Caribbean rhythm.”
