Atlantic Coast Natural History Adventure

The coast of Maine has a treasure trove of tranquil tidal bays, dramatic rocky headlands, and a fascinating history that tracks use and exploitation by settlers. The different habitats and interesting locations could take a lifetime to explore, and we’ll do our best to hit some highlights over the course of this tour. We’ll highlight coastal ecology and wildlife, see and talk about the interesting geology of the area, and visit historical and current villages that reveal interesting insights into the area.

This trip will include exposure to the lobster “culture” of the Maine coast, fascinating and fun visits with real fishermen and lobstermen, and much more. We’ll get a healthy dose of authentic Downeast storytelling and folklore. There will also be plenty of emphasis on and opportunity for wildlife viewing; depending on the season, we’ll be seeing seals, sea birds, shorebirds, sea ducks, intertidal creatures, ospreys and bald eagles, migrating birds, and many more species.

Activities: Sea kayaking, hiking, canoeing, mountain biking.
Meals and Lodging: Clambakes, lobster shore dinners, New England chowder, blueberry pie, and other coastal fare. Lodging will include a mix of small coastal bed and breakfasts and inns.
Duration: 6 days, 5 nights, Monday through Saturday
Cost: $2,350 per person.

September 18 to 23, 2006 – FILLED
